Monday 14th March - Day 3 New York City
|
The New York Subway |
Day 3 saw us up early and headed on the subway to
downtown New York and across to
Liberty and Ellis Islands. Ellis Island was
New Yorks main immigration station from 1892
until 1954 and is now an amazing museum.

Ellis Island |
We headed back uptown with a stop off at the World Trade Centre. We visited the 9/11 memorial museum and saw the work that is currently under way to create a new permanent memorial at the site. Very moving indeed!

Working on the WTC site |
We headed back uptown to visit MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) where again I stood in absolute awe at paintings by Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne, Monet, Dali, Pollock, Warhol ...... again - just wow!
|
This Monet took up a whole wall - amazingly beautiful |
|
Look who's in the background! |
|
One of my all time favourites! |
Being the Museum of Modern Art ... sometimes we just didn't get it!
|
Yup! A bale of hay? |
|
A blind lying on the floor - ummm! |
|
