Easter Long Weekend - 22nd - 25th April 2011

Over the Easter long weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to go up to 'cottage country' in northern Ontario.  A work colleague of Emma's invited us up to their cottage on Chub Lake at Huntsville and as you will see by the photos it was just spectacular.

I was picked up Thursday after school and we drove the 3 hours north, with what is apparently a customary stop at 'Webers'  a roadside burger restaurant - of course we had to also stop on the way home, where I was brave enough to try another Canadian tradition 'Poutine'  - fries with cheese curd and gravy! Surprisingly it was delicious :-)  The burgers and shakes were also well worth the stop!

Outside Webers - see the line up out the door!
Friday 22nd April - Good Friday
The cottage was just beautiful. Just what you'd imagine a little wooden cottage by a lake to be like.  There was still snow around and ice on the lake, the weather was beautiful .... WOW!  Most of the cottages are closed over winter, so when we arrived we put on the fire and warmed the place up!  After a much needed sleep in we head out for a hiking along the lake and into the woods.  Emma and I spent the afternoon canoeing on the lake and taking a thousand photos :-)

Saturday 23rd April

It was a dull and rainy day so we made the most of having to relax by sleeping in, lazy breakfasts, reading by the fire and shopping!  We headed into the town of Huntsville to wander down the main street which was so quaint and delightful.  In the afternoon we also managed to fit in a visit to a pottery factory!

Sunday 24th April - Easter Sunday
Today was such a beautiful day we packed up the canoes and lunch, then headed out where we had an amazing day slowly paddling down the river.  Wow!  At night we lit up the campfire and listened to the coyotes howling all around us, what a fantastic end to a wonderful weekend.

Monday 25th April - Easter Monday & ANZAC Day
Unfortunately the weekend had to end.  After another lovely sleep in we packed up and sadly headed home, of course stopping at Webers for lunch.  As you can see by the photos I have been truly blessed, I feel now that I have not only seen but experienced the real Canada!  It is amazingly beautiful :-) I can't wait to see more!
