Hubbard Glacier 14th July 2011

Our final day cruising saw us stop off near the incredible Hubbard Glacier.  A spectacular glacier that comes right down to the ocean and is amazingly over 10km wide at the ocean! Yep - wow!   We had to wake up at 5am and we stood up on deck in the freezing rain and fog but it was so worth it.  The best ever hot chocolate I have ever had made it worth it :-)
The ship got surprisingly close, which not only made for great photos but when pieces of the glacier fell off, you could hear the thunderous sound echo all around - truely incredible.

We knew we were getting close
when iceburgs started floating by!

Warming up with hot
chocolate while waiting.

Hubbard Glacier

Looking overboard!

Ice falling off the glacier

The most incredible sight!

Just an amazing amount of ice!

More ice falling!

1. Some ice begins to fall...

2. ... splashing into the sea

3. Ice continues to fall ..

4. .. and splash

The glacier is changed forever!

Trying to warm up with the yummiest
hot chocolate ever - 6am!
