We flew to Fairbanks in central Alaska, flying over North America's highest peak (6194m) was incredible. Apparently only 30% of people get to view the top of Mt McKinley due to the clouds that often cover it - this was the first of many views for lucky us!
We started our train journey in Fairbanks heading south through Denali National Park back to Anchorage, with a few stops along the way. We were able to see one of the largest pipeline systems in the worlds - the Trans Alaska Pipeline, it is the only way to get the oil from Alaska's far frozen north to waiting tankers in the ice free port of Valdez. Pretty incredible really.
Fairbanks was the furthest north we were going to be - during the summer it never really gets dark, it was fun to get up throughout the night just to see how light it still was.

The Alaskan train first took us from Fairbanks to Denali National Park, through some spectacular mountain scenery. After arriving in the Denali we boarded the bus for an 8 hour tour through the National Park. The photos again will show you just how incredible the interior of Alaska is.
